Functional skills lesson on punctuation, paragraphing, writing in different tenses and using this to write a review. Comes with a reading comprehension, a discussion and a recap of a spelling technique I used in a previous lessons. Lesson is complete with sample answers, extension activities and peer marking for the final written piece. Punctuation covered: commas, full stops, exclamation marks, apostrophes and possessive apostrophes.

Functional skills lesson to prepare the students for sitting the writing exam. Looks at fact and opinion/ understanding the wording of the questions, the spelling rules and practice of Cial and Tial suffixes and the Sion and Tion rule. Also looks at using adjectives (for writing question 1) and using information from a text in the form of buying a car (writing question 2). Should last over two hours. Both books are over twenty pages and have extension activities , they were designed to help students identify language techniques and to know how to answer question 5 with multiple options to choose from to practice these skills.

Looks at how to make a text more persuasive and is a nice introduction into using persuasive language techniques (direct address, rule of three, powerful adjectives and rhetorical questions). A functional skills lesson on the theme on employability, looks at common work terminology for British employment, it has a reading and a writing task to suit writing a cover letter and understanding a person specification. Discussion opportunities throughout the text its a really good opportunity to talk to students about work. Tasks on connectives and complex and simple sentences included. Should last around 1 hour 40 mins depending on class ability.

Over the break game where students build on each others activities 10 minutes Team quiz with 12 questions - sorry theres a promise of chocolate for the winners at the end. Plenary match up of the sophisticated words from the beginning.

Question 4 paper 2 of GCSE English language for AQA. The theme is on money and life choices designed for a two hour lesson. The lesson objectives are scaffolded using Bloom’s taxonomy verbs. Starter - statements promoting critical thinking (with answers) Recap - Explode a quote (sample answer) Task 1 - perspective and attitude teaching and 15 minute task Task 2 - Inference about life choices and language analysis extension 15 Minute task but you can allow extra time for class discussion. Task 3 - Analysis of sample answer, students label the answer using terms from the mark scheme. Task 4 - reading of the two texts and analysis (video link as well) Task 5 - question 5 quick attempt Task 5 - Plenary students identify themes and ideas as of being 19th or 21st Century attitudes.
